- My model of MX-5 is: __1990 NA
- I’m based near: __Kent
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __A short nose crankshaft locking tool
Good morning
I’m about to perform a timing belt and water pump change on my short nose crank NA. Obviously I am nervous about the whole thing when it comes to torquing it back up as there is no hint of wobble at the moment and I want to keep it that way.
I’ve got the camshaft locking tool, but I also want to use a crank locking tool on this job. They’re easily available for long nose cranks, but I’m struggling to find one for short nose. Does anyone know of a short nose tool, or would a long nose tool work, eg using spacers. Apart from that I assume I’m into making one myself?
I am worried about getting the torque correct on this, just wondering if it is as critical as I’m thinking. Is it strictly as per the manual or do people add a little extra for this particular job?
Any advice greatly received.
Thank you
Graham
