Is this Jacking method OK

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC2 PRHT
  2. I’m based near: _Gillingham Kent
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _Jacking procedure

From time to time I browse online for ‘how to’ videos for jobs on my NC2 and I’ve noticed a few times that there are those out there who put their cars up on stands by jacking approximately in the middle of the side rail and then placing the axle stands at the jacking points. They then lower and repeat the other side. It certainly seems to make the job quicker and easier with no scrabbling under the car front and back to place the jack correctly. Has anybody else come across this? Any thoughts on whether or not this is an acceptable practice?

You have to be careful doing this that:
You spread the load/protect the sill area you are jacking on
Jack in smaller stages side to side to reach desired height.
The jack stands are stable and on firm level ground.
The jack wheels rotate freely to allow its position to move inwards under the car as it lifts.

Just seen this post and thought it might be helpful to show this link. This is how I jack the front and secure. Cheers.
