J-LTD-2's

Hey guys and gals i was wondering how many more j-ltd-2’s there are in the uk club? I was just enquiring cause they’re are a few things i wanted to ask about i was thinking about changing the dull dash dials and wondering how easy it is (plus my speedo dial reads in mph but is detailed in km!  Back to the spec ed, i have seen one for sale on ebay and i have seen what i think is a j-ltd-1 down in uckfield east sussex, but i was just wanting to pick brains and try and find out if when the japs imported them if they ame with the same alloys i have some enkei alloys split colours chrome outers and blue innards the only detail on the alloy i can find is enkei sport i am after a single one or a decent place to repair one that i have badly damaged. Well i hope i could get some positive feedback thanks again ;D

1991 J-Limited

1994 J-Limited 2

My parents have a 94 J-Limited 2 Automatic and have recently joined the MX5OC[:)]

I’ve had my J2 LTD for a year now, did have the original wheels but they were badly pitted so changed them for ROTA’s. Its not a car to be shy in!!

Would have uploaded a pic but can’t work the new system!

Hey all thanks for the info on who has the inafamous j-ltd-2, this is the strange thing i have enkei wheels on mine and was told they were factory standards but the pics i see have standard alloys on them weird, maybe my search for a replacement wheel is at an end. :frowning: nice to see there are a few other in the club also.

Enkei made the 5-spoke 15" wheel fitted to Mk2 and Mk2.5s, and madea 15" wheel fitted to late Mk1s. All of these were to a Mazda design, and with a Mazda logo. Later on, Enkei supplied a design (their own) to Mazda, with a Mazda badge. Some of these were optional on Mk2.5 RS-Limited Roadsters and were pretty light. A near identical design, also 15" and white, was shipped with a batch of cars to the UK, that was intended to be the Angels special edition. Mazda UK subsequently changed these wheels to a different, locally sourced design. Consequently, a ton of these wheels found their way onto ebay. They’re not particularly lightweight, so seem to be a lesser specced version of the original Enkei wheel.

If the wheel you have is prominantly branded “Enkei”, its an aftermarket fitting.

800 J-Ltd-2 made for sale in Japan late ’93 and early ’94

I killed one and now have it’s replacement in last 10 years or so. There were 300 Californias from '95 which is the UK 1.8 yellow. In a year of looking 9 years ago I found 16 J-Ltd-2 and 20 Californias on Autotrader but then they were still importing then so there was a bias to selling the J-Ltd-2 by dealers.

My guess is that 80-150 J-Ltd-2 made it to UK … you do see them but not as often as Californias? …and the club must have 20-30 of those?

Never had standard wheels but the factory photo by SAZ is right…

Would be interesting to find out how many have survived or are registered. I have a J1 Ltd and like you would like to know how many of the 800 made are here.

I’d be interested to know how many were actualy Automatics, because the guy (MX-5 dealer) who sold the one to my parents said he had never seen another J-Limited 2 Automatic in all the years he’ been trading, he also had a manual version for sale which had the same standard looking wheels, they were like two peas in a pod[:)]

J-Ltd-1 would be similar amounts (all wild guesses but 10 years of listening!)

Autos guess is 5-10% max, I have heard of one or two through the club which sort of ties in.

More probably, a 50:50 mix of manuals and automatics. The J-Limited wasn’t sold based on a base sports model (S-Spec). The Tokyo Limited was based on a S-Package, and was 24 automatic, 24 manual. The same mix might not be repeated here, as there was a certain amount of selectivity of the cars imported to the UK (though ironically, Autohaus were importing only automatic Vspecs in 1991-1992).

On the other hand, J-Limiteds might have been built a bit differently to J-Limited 2s. Because of the latter’s unique paint finish and seating, these might have been part of a specific batch. J-Limiteds though were built at the same time as other yellow cars, not especially different (yellow Miatas were a regular paint option, albeit not widely taken up, plus an Aussie yellow edition). Customers might have ordered them, like a regular car, with various options. So the balance of autos/manuals might not have been fixed at the start.

Used Roadsters were exported to a variety of countries, some of which were more keen on Autos than we are (eg. Hong Kong, Malaysia, parts of the Caribbean, and now Canada)

I’ve just bought a J-Ltd 2. Looks to be completely standard except for the wheels which I don’t recognize. It has leather seats and a hardtop too. Planning on doing a few rounds of the HSA Sprint and Hill Climb series this year having competed in this before.
