Jacking Points?

Hi

Not quite sure where to place this one, so here goes.

Where is the correct place to jack up the front/rear of my '5? I am using a trolley jack. Also where would I place the axel stands? I know that this sounds pretty basic but I have heard horror stories about people whe have jacked in the wrong place.

You should jack on the centre of the differential casing & in the centre of the front subframe. The axle stand points are inbetween the drain holes for the sills. I see a “How to jack & support your MX-5” STHT article coming on…

That would be ace. In fact, I reckon there’d be a lot of mileage in a series of short articles aimed at people who are looking to take their first steps in looking after their own MX5s.

Thats not a bad idea,i would be checking it out.

This might help [Y]

There’s an article in the STHT archive, by Dr Bob. Another good reason for joining the OC.

That first article mentions putting the vehicle into 2nd - I always leave mine in either 1st or reverse when stopped, but is it better to use a higher forward gear?

First or second both work for me. The higher the gear the further the car moves before the gears mesh
