Kumho Tyres

I didn’t know that actually. I thought on a RWD car, the rears would wear quicker. When I got new Potenzas, the rears I replaced (from new) were about 2.5mm, the fronts about late/high 3s. No rotations. So is that due to me?

Not sure this is correct.

I think mine have been on for 10,000 miles now and I haven’t got around to changing them front to back yet, which I mean to do before our Ireland tour in a few weeks.

I’ve had to go and check them with my little gauge, a gift from the RAC about 30 years ago!

There’s 5mm on the back and maybe 5.5mm on the front so I suppose I have to say it’s arguable:)

The fronts are a bit more worn at the outer edge as you might expect.

John_M might have been referring to wheelspin standing starts.

Well…I’m not the world authority on this, it’s only a conversation. But I guess it must depend on the type of use. Hard acceleration especially from rest must take its toll, never mind leaving black lines at junctions which I’m sure you would never do!

On a balanced throttle in the corners, there’s no obvious reason why the rears should wear more than the fronts. They carry the same weight, and the fronts are taking some slip in the turns. They also taking the brunt of braking which is just acceleration in reverse.

I didn’t mean to impugn anybody’s driving…there are different styles and it is a ‘sports car’, after all.

I like to knock on but I avoid unnecessary harsh acceleration and heavy braking. I admit I was not always so considerate with company cars.

Good info.
Yes, I’m not one for heavy breaking, and I see what you mean ref wear and the front takes most of the braking. The drive train is on the rear axle though, so surely that must factor in?

In the spirit of the thread topic and title, whilst not my cup of tea, it seems like Kumho have released a new tyre in the 205/45/17 size

Excuse me if this has been mentioned already

I have Kumho PS72 in 215/45R17 XL fitted to my NC, with about 1200 miles on them. Came in cheaper than PS71’s from Camskill at around £280 delivered.

Very happy with them so far. Much better ride than the CC2’s in 205 guise that were swapped out and have been enjoying pushing on with them, top-down, in this smashing weather we’ve been having.
