Leaking Rain Rail?

Hi All,

This afternoon while fitting a new electric aerial mast I noticed some water drips inside the boot lid. I’ve taken a pic and highlighted in red the area the water was coming from (click on the pic to enlarge it):

Would water dripping in from here suggest a problem with the rain rail? I’m 95% sure the drain holes are completely clear. This roof is only a couple of years old and was fitted by the importer.

Is there an easy way for me to check if the rain rail is the problem… and if it is… is it easy to fix?

Many Thanks…

Hi James, I think I had/have the same issue. Do you use a lot of water when you wash the car? The rain rail is fitted with rivets at the factory but these are not required when fitting a new hood. My car had a new hood fitted and the original rivet holes were not covered so if there is a LOT of water the rail fills before it can drain to a height that allows water to drip from the rivet holes.

I am told this just needs a bit of duck tape to be fitted to the rain rail ( on the to do list). It is easy to get to, you need to pull back the carpet by gently removing a number of plugs and then undo about 12 nuts that clamp the rail to the body, you can then put on some tape to cover the holes.

I had my car appart to find the leak but did not think of duck tape at the time. ! Doh.
