Locked out of my MK3 boot

Well done! And no extra holes drilled which is a bonus.

Well done you! Are you able to reinstate the electronic key fob operation? It might be a good backup!

After a few days delay and finishing off the boot refurb (after getting back into it), I’ve finally got around to reinstating the boot lock proper and thought I was home and dry, but no. I’m stuck.
When reconnecting the release rod I realised that the rod movement at the key end is about 25mm and the movement at the lock end is only about 7mm. From the photo by Richard FX where the rod is shown fixed into the hole formed by the nylon fastener it therefore follows that the other end must slide through the fastener at the lock end. However I can’t see how this works. My photo shows the rod which is at an angle that doesn’t allow it be fixed in any robust way. Simply clipping it into the fastener doesn’t work as it pulls out at the second or third twist of the key. I’m pretty sure that the rod is the correct way round,
If anyone knows how this should be fitted please let me know as I’ve pondered the problem for ages with no luck and can’t find a photo of the lock from the back end,
And yes, mxomatosis, the electric release is fitted and working !

I’ve just seen a photo on eBay and the rod does just slide through the fastener but at an angle that means it won’t just pop out. However, this means the other end isn’t at 90* to the key lock which it needs to be to slot into the hole. What is the obvious error I’m making chaps?

The rod should poke in to the hole in the white plastic clip - then the clip rotates and locks on to the rod.
I have a tiny zip tie holding mine secure.

You beat me to it! I was looking for a decent pic…

Sorry for not posting, I have been indisposed and this problem has taken a back seat.
Thanks for the advice above but my problem is at the other end of the rod. It does just slide through the clip and doesn’t lock into the hole. After much frustration I realise that the new nylon clips I bought are slightly different, The one at the problem end that just cups the sliding rod has its cup up the other way and swapping this back to the old one cures the issue as it now doesn’t want to simply drop out. Anyone replacing these clips needs to be aware of this.
Thanks so much for all your help.
