Locking Glovebox??

Hi there, have been able to resolve several issues on this forum in the past…great place to get answers.

Is there anyway that you can get a replacement key to lock the glovebox and centre cubby box

when you’ve got the roof down and leaving car around town??

Thanks Scott

I always empty my glovebox and put the stuff in the boot. If someone realises that it is locked they are going to think that there is something in there worth pinching, and a screwdriver will soon open a locked one.

This happened to my Dad when he had a Jaguar car.

My normal ignition key locks/unlocks both the glove box and centre cubby

Cheers guys, never actually thought of trying the ignition key…[:$] don’t know why, but got the impression it was going to be a plasticy key to lock it…

I have locked stuff in the boot before, but kept thinking to myself if someone opens the cubby lid they could just flip the boot open and help themselves…

Think best bet is to not leave the top down if being left for a long time!

Thanks again guys

Scott

When you close the boot, lock it with the key, turn the key a quarter turn to the left (you’ll hear a click) this disables the remote release in the cubby box.

Damn, what a good idea, but it doesn’t work on my Mk1

Thanks, doesn’t work on mine either, just tried the ignition key and that doesn’t work…

guess the best bet for now is to leave the car empty…

When you tried it on your car were you only able to unlock the boot by turning the key clockwise, as I did.

Polly, your eunos is a 1992, I don’t think you even have a boot release in the cabin do you? (next to the fuel cap release)
 My 1990 Eunos doesn’t.

Mines a 92 Eunos & has the boot release in the centre console cubby…Not tried locking the boot with the key though…Will give it a go [Y]

For the record my ignition key fits the glovebox lock.

My '91 Eunos has the levers for the boot and the filler cap in the centre console.

The ignition key locks the centre console and the glove box. What good it is on a plastic lid though!!

I thought I had read that the boot lever was an addition in the changes in 1992.
You live and learn!

I think that if you have the boot
release in the cabin but can not disable it there is a simple fix.

It was something along the lines of
taking the boot lock out and fitting it back upside down.

No doubt someone will be along shortly
with all the details.

I can’t open or lock my boot with the key only the boot release in the cubby box…

Not sure about taking out the lock and turning it upside down!! Would this solve the problem??

If you take the cover off the rear inside of the boot (4 plastic push fixings) you can see the lock and the cable for the remote release. Haven’t really looked into it, but couldn’t it be as simple as disconnecting the cable?

Yes but then you wont have the option of using the cabin release. The mod which i too have read about but can`t remember where allows you to lock the boot lid with the key for security should you wish.

Hey baftacat, my release lever works fine, but when I try and turn the key in the boot lock it won’t turn either way, i was trying to find a way to lock my glovebox and cubby box so I could leave my roof down when around town and someone had made the suggestion of emptying glovebox etc into boot and locking it but mine won’t work like that, does yours on your 91 eunos??

I have found this link, which details how
disable the boot release in the cabin with the lock.

This sounds like you have a worn or
broken lock. The mod will not help with this.
