Hardly the fault of the locking wheel nut itself, but yep, sure - definitely remove them in the case of forgetful car owners.
Lots of destroyed keys as well. People trying to put a lot of load though an often fiddly key, rounds edges and strips pins etc. because they can’t seat them correctly.
People do seem to be the determining factor here, certainly.
The last time I heard and witnessed a car sitting on bricks with its wheels missing was back in the 80’s. It’s just not a thing these days tho’ I guess someone could be unlucky enough. They’ll take your car before stealing just your wheels.
I got rid of the locking wheel nuts on my NC when the key decided it didn’t want to play anymore and broke. I really didn’t enjoy the hassle of getting the nuts off. Having said that I’ve still got them on my Defender but that’s a much better key.
