Louder indicators?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC3__
  2. I’m based near: __Guildford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Louder indicators. I’ve just driven back from Exeter roof down. I lost count of the number of times I failed to cancel my indicators because I couldn’t hear them (and the steering wheel obscutes the flashing lights, but that’s another story). I’ve found an old thread on here that points towards a cheap ebay fix - a buzzer, which doesn’t sound ideal from what I read. Instead, I wondered if anybody here has found (or invented) a better fix for this, and/or can recommend, say, an autoelectrician (probably one who tends more towards improvisation rather than just ‘diagnostic computer says…’).
My ideal would be something that meant the indicators sounded louder (ideally not a buzzer) when the roof was down (either switchable or perhaps even when the roof retracted the system changed to the louder setting). As I say, I’m keen to hear suggestions either on existing solutions or on who might help with this, probably as a more ‘ad hoc’ solution. Thanks.

I accidentally cured a similar problem, not being able to see the dash indicator lights, on my NBFL when I fitted a a woodrim effect steering wheel and found it’s diameter a bit bigger than the standard S-VT wheel, down side is that is a bit more difficult to get in and out of the car but I can live with that.

If that would not work for you there are some suggestions from previous NC owners on this thread :- NC Indicator TapTurn

I recently fitted a buzzer after experiencing the same issue. The buzzer has a variable delay so it’s not always on. Wired into rear indicators and placed on bulkhead behind drivers seat. Very happy with it.

Thanks. Yes, the wheel likely won’t work for me, but I’ll check out the tap turns.

Thanks. Was it this one below (off an earlier thread)? What does the variable delay do? Does it make the buzzer intermittant, so like a click on-off repeater sound but as a buzz?

Hi, I haven’t posted about it before. Just bought off of ebay (I think). The variable delay is adjusted via a small plastic screw head and delays the beeping for up to 16 flashes of the indicator. Mine is set at 9 but I’m probably going to turn it up a bit.

I’ve just clicked on your link, and no it’s not that one. The one I bought was in a plastic box with a push fit lid. If I remember correctly it was advertised for a diahatsu. I will have a look for my order and get back to you.

This is it

This looks ideal Thanks!
