I wonder if a warped head was missed when the head gasket was last replaced?
The head was skimmed last time the head was off.

Agreed. Never put it in an engine, especially not a modern one with hydraulic valve lifters!
The only times I’ve ever used it was maybe forty years ago in a noisy gearbox and a noisy diff; it gave the old banger another couple of years of ultra-cheap life before the tin worm finally ended it.
Something that did actually work was Lubysil SC100 silicon additive. In 1967 my old Triumph 650 pumped all its oil out through the engine breather onto the Autobahn without me noticing, until I put more petrol in and saw all the oil on the back wheel and panniers. Fortunately it already had the Lubysil and when I stripped it down to check on the damage it was just fine, no wear and no scoring etc; all it needed was a new oil-pump because the scavenge valve seating had crumbled because of grit getting in through a missing rocker cover cap.
