Machine Mart Clarke Garage problem.

I keep my NB outside with a hardtop roof for weather protection. It doesn’t seem to mind. The birds obviously do use the car for target practice, but that can be dealt with fairly easily.

Many thanks Gentlemen,my intent is to find somewhere to work on my MK2 including both welding and paint spraying and i thought it would be good for shelter at the Donington Classic in a few months time in case of adverse weather.I am a N.E.M Area member.
I also have hard tops for my MK1 and MK2 to protect the legendry drains, there are many trees where i live.
I will now print all of this correspondence, check on the other suggested threads and print them off and deliver them to Machine Mart and will post any developments on the FORUM for any interested parties.
Kind Regards.
Ian.

Well i went to Machine Mart and i showed them the wad of correspondence and they only read the first post on the topic and phoned their technical support department. They advised that it is a seasonal problem and would not happen throughout the warmer months of the year,on this basis i am going to buy one as i also do not function well in the colder months.Hopefully as i do it will last many years of fair weather shelter for me and the 5 i am working on at the time.
Regards Ian.

Well that’s very interesting. So basically they supply a garage that keeps your car nice and wet 100% of the time in the winter when it could be dry 50% of the time if you left it outside. So when I ended my original post with " or are these garages just a load of ****?" I was actually correct. THEY ARE!

At the moment I have no garage, so when I got a (to me) quite expensive MX5 I looked at all the other options to keep it covered and keep the worst of the weather off. I finally settled on a car port - nothing fancy, just a wooden frame and perspex roof. Got to say it works amazingly well, car nice and dry, no bird droppings and it doesn’t get iced up, working on the car would be comfortable most days, no rain to worry about and it’s probably only the very cold days when a garage would have a clear advantage. Total cost was only about £400, and worth every penny - so maybe worth a thought if you’ve got room ( certainly condensation is not an issue - only annoying thing I notice is dust from the hedge in summer if the car’s been parked up for a few days)

I am sorry that i discounted the other suggested suppliers of this type of temporary garage but will look into them.I would hazard a guess that they would also suffer with the same condensation problem. My home is a Council owned bungalow and i am not allowed to have a driveway let alone a carport and am relying on the good grace of a former business partner who will allow me to work at his home and erect a temporary shelter whilst undertaking the renovation of my MK2.
Regards. Ian.

Depending on your council, garages in a block can also be rented. Love the use of space in this block garage:

Thanks for all your suggestions regarding my damp Clarke garage, and other various option possibilities.

I do have a double garage and a carport. The main problem is my inability to refuse an unloved Mx5! Perhaps a clear out would be a better option. However I am going to continue to try to find a solution, and I am going to try to fit some roof vents in the new year. If this fails I will have to resort to keeping tropical rainforest flora and fauna.

will keep posted.

I am replying to TFRGREEN FIrst as this is the most urgent.I looked on Ebay where there are dozens of these Garages listed and of all of them only one claimed to be CONDENSATION FREE by the use of LOUVRED VENTS along the sides,it should not take long to find this one and make further enquiries on the pretext of being a potential customer.I am sorry that i am unable to isolate this particular one as i am rubbish with computers.

                                                       SAZ9961

I rented two garages similar to yours from Derby City Council who do not allow you to do repairs in them.I originally had two 8 by 6 wooden sheds which i kept my english motor bikes in with the intention of supplementing my pension as they were restored and sold.
A new housing manager arrived and i was told that my sheds were a fire hazard and had to be removed but they would rent me two garages as long as i had something which was used and roadworthy in them.So i put my bike trailer in one and my 600-4 Honda in the other and the rest of my bikes and tools i split between them Tinware in one and the rest of the bikes in the other then sadly i became a carer for the next 5 years. One day i needed some tools and went to the relevant garage to find it completely cleared it took nearly a year to get compensation from the council who had cleared the wrong garage many months before. That is when i became a MX5 owner with the compensation i received.
Regards Ian.

I have a Protec car shelter, had it for 10 years to store a spare car ( I have two hobby cars)

Force 8 gale rated, comes with screw in ground anchors, UV protected and importantly it has large vents above the doors at each end. No major condensation problems for me.
