Would it be possible when Personalising the main page to make “sidebar” elements not-displayed, like the forum sections already can be?
I was just thinking about how I actually use the main forum page: Most used is “Posts you have not read” (which is fine, because it’s right at the top) and I also scroll down to “My Discussions”, “Active” and sometimes “Unanswered”, but I never use “Popular Tags”.
So it would be good if I could collapse the Popular Tags pane (or drag it further down the list) to save scrolling.
I think tags might become very useful in the future as an alternative to Searching for a specific topic, but only if people are fairly disciplined about using them. At the moment, the boldest text in the Popular Tags pane is “1999 10th Anniversary”. But that’s not because there are lots of topics about that particular model, rather it looks like someone’s just confused Tags with Signatures, and tagged a lot of irrelevant chat.
Hi Martin, I’ve edited a lot of the tags, I’ll probably upset someone, but that’s par for the course. I’ll have another go later—
I have to say i find this new layout hard work , it just seems complicated , i’m sure it’s fully customisable to my preferences . but I 'm not interested in that , just changing my screen name was a chore , also it seems very quiet and i have notice numbers raising on other forums i frequent and the reason given is “I can’t get on with the new OC forum” , seems a shame really
Might be time to have another go, Geoff, as 1999 10th Anniversary has grown huge again. [:D]
Actually, it might be better to have a quiet, diplomatic, moderator-ly word with the perpetrator, just to explain what tags are for and that they aren’t signatures.
I’ve edited out all the car specific references, but I have no idea what causes the giant size stuff like NA (MK1)
