MAP sensor replacement

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2007 NC
  2. I’m based near: Bournemouth, Dorset.
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Changing MAP sensor

Hi all, just wondering if there’s anyone on here who’s got experience in changing a MAP sensor on a 2L NC. If so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated as it looks a right pig to get to and I can’t find anything online.

Never tackled this job but I’m sure I watched a video online , I believe all of intake manifold side needs to be removed.

I had mine done a while back at my local garage and they said it was a horrible job or words to that effect!

I recently did my PCV valve on my NC
Based on the work needed to change it - I would say that the inlet needs to come off for the MAP.
I would also change the PCV whilst the inlet is off - it’s a job you wouldn’t want to have to repeat at a later date.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did manage to do it in the end without taking the manifold off. It was every bit as tricky as I thought it would be, but with the aid of some string, superglue and no small or swearing I got it done eventually (3 hrs), and so far it seems to have cured the fault code.

Every credit for achieving that.
Did you remove the bulkhead panel to get access ?

Not sure if it’s different on the 2L (I have a 1.8) but the manifold looks to be the same. I found it honestly easy to pop off, it’s on the back of the manifold (I’ve circled it, it’s the only sensor back there so easy enough to see). It’s got a T20 screw holding it in (second pic is with that removed) just a little ratchet behind got that out. Remove the screw then grab the sensor and pop it out, there’s an O ring on the end of the sensor (third pic) which seals it all up, then you can just bring the sensor round and push down the tab on the top of the sensor to pop out the connector. Then just swap in the new sensor, pop in the sensor, try and line up the screw hole (hence why I took a pic) screw in your T20 and you’re done.

Whilst I’m on, try and get a Bosch sensor not the one on MX-5 parts, (I’ve done this job twice now), they sell a cheap Walker sensor that I had issue with, but buy cheap buy twice. I got the Bosch from Autodoc.
