Mazda underseal service

I have booked in my 1.8 2003 2.5 to rustbuster of spalding. They charge £250 plus VAT for a small car like a 5 for everything, including steamcleaning, removal/conversion of any rust, dinitrol in cavities and sills, undersealing. They want the car for two full days. I have booked a hotel and am taking plenty of books.

My 5 has been garaged all its life and does not go out in bad weather. There is no evident rust but rustproofing is a sensible investment given the problems. I have seen a 5 the same age as mine and it was in a shocking condition, with rust coming through the sills and rear wings.

Mine is into Chassis Clean next week for irony getting the full works cavity etc. taking no risks what so ever with the winter coming and it is close enough.

Just wish that I had not had to order a new mirror for the passenger side mind knocking it in the garage cracking the glass and shell :(.

Mine is now booked in to Skuzzle for the end of the month. It will include a full underseal with all the trimmings. On top of that a thorough checkup and, if required, repairs of the chassis rails.

Since I don’t know how bad the rails may be yet (a supserficial inspection shows at least some light rust around the holes) it’s impossible to say yet what the whole shebang will cost  Confused

At least the underseal part if a fixed price of course.

I’ll be getting mine done before its first sniff of salt, as well as taking off the pimpy lacquered 17" Venture wheels* and replacing with some normal silver-painted Mazda 16" wheels.  I’ve just had a look underneath and it’s totally clean at the moment (as you’d expect) and summer rain doesn’t do much harm.

*look great, totally impractical as you spend all your time dodging potholes; thank $DEITY I never have to parallel-park as one touch of a kerb would wreck them.

Please see my earlier post. I returned from Spalding with mixed feelings. They did an excellent job of the rustproofing on my Mk2.5 2003 and I can recommend Rustbuster for their work. I was charged £250 for the ristproofing and an additional £80 for remedial work, all plus VAT. I received a full report, including a memory stick containing 72 photos of the whole process, including cleaning, inspection, injection (including doors, bonnet and boot), The car was generally in good condition in most respects, considering its ten-year age. The chassis rails were fine as was nearly all of the rest of the bodywork. However, rust was found in the rear sills and action was taken to convert the rust and to make a repair. I was shocked to find the rust in what I had believed was a car in excellent condidtion. The hood drains were checked by my local Mazda dealer when I bought the car last September. I chose it carefully and believed that it was in near perfect condidtion, with 22000 genuine miles on the clock. The previous owner had had it serviced by a Mitsubishi garage rather than a Mazda dealer. I think that the rust in my rear sills was caused by water getting into them when the drains were blocked by debris. There is nothing in my owner’s handbook to show the location of the drains or to say that they should be periodically cleared, and nothing relating to this in the servicing schedule. The Mitsubishi dealer probably had no idea that the drains needed periodical inspection and clearing. The absence of information regarding this matter in the service schedule is, I think, a serious omission on Mazda’s part.

Rustbustersa’ work includes a full Dinitrol Service: FE-123 rust conversion and took two full days. Doors, chassis, A+B pillars all injected with dinitrol 3125 cavity wax and full underside and arches teatment with dinitrol 4941. The service repairs to the sills were done after shot blasting and using Rustbusters’ FE123 and a special epoxy resin. Rustbuster guarantees all their work for five years. The service includes an annual inspection and ‘top-up’ for £25 for the five years following the initial treatment. On the sixth aniversary the full treatment is repeated for £100 plus VAT. I believe that they are contracted to the MoD.

I have now begun to regularly clear my hood drains with flexible net curtain hanger and I have ordered a trombone cleaner to make this easier. These cost £5 and have a little brush on each end. They can be bought on Ebay.

Tarawa.

The sill rust on cars that have very dry sills so stagnat water in their that may not be the cause of the rust. As you say you have found the secret rear drains but there are two even more secret at the front jacking points on the sills. Harder to find and quite small so have a look there and unblock.

As the sills rust from the inside the repair work that the company has done to the outside of the sills no matter how well done will not stop the rust from the inside nor will firing in some wax on top of the existig rusty inside sills.

So unless my reading of your posting is incorrect and they have not cut out metal and replaced those rusty parts of the sill, you will at best have unil the spring to see the rust again in that area.

Yes I have paid the MX5 tax and had two new rear wings and a front wing and the rust removed from my boot lid. No I did not enjoy writng this post…

ACF 50 should slow down any internal rusting, being highly liquid it can seep into areas that wax won’t.

I have some anti rust (tanic acid) and I intend to add a bit of water and use my model airbrush kit to spray some into the inner sills ect but then after that I was thinking about thinning down some hammerite smooth and spray in there after it, as for the under side of the car I waterd down some tanic acid and use a wire brush on a drill to clean up any rust (belive it or not there was not that much) then cure it with the acid then coated it with hammerite smooth the reason i use the stuff its it displaces the moisture better than most, they say you can paint over rust but TBH i’d sooner cure the stuff first

I offer a very comprehensive MX-5 only Waxoyling service in S Wales, takes 2 days and includes inner sills, chassis rails (inc internal treatment of front chassis rails) power steering pipes, subframes, suspension arms, anti-roll bars, inner wings, engine bay, B pillar, all chassis bracketry for £125 (inc MX5OC member discount) labour plus 10 Litres Waxoyl (5L black and 5 L clear) and 4L of white spirit (customer suppied)

Whole underside is jetwashed, dried then treated with hot Waxoyl - all wheel-arch liners and lower engine cover removed.

Currently a 3 week waiting list.
