I have a couple of double glazed units which have mist patches and condensation on the inside surface of the outer sheet of glass. I have been told that it is possible to drill holes in the inner sheet of glass, ventilate the cavity and disperse the moisture. Has anyone ever heard of this? and does anyone have any information on it? Any double glazing experts out there? Any advice appreciated.

Sorry it didn’t work when I tried it. It is usually down to poor manufacturing. I found that replacement units were better when purchased from a Glass Supplier rather than double glazing company’s.
Misting/condensation usually means that the seal has broken (assuming they are sealed units), drilling holes may not help and, if the glass is laminated or toughened, may not be possible.
The only real solution is to replace the unit. You will probably find that there are a whole host of local suppliers/fitters, so shop around and go by recommendation if possible.
Thanks for the replies… I have been quoted £75 by someone to drill a hole in it, insert some chemical or other and it will dry out! Does not seem convincing to me. So since a new unit will only cost about £50 I am going to replace it, I was hoping to avoid this as it is in a mahogany frame and getting the beads out intact is a bit tricky, I wiil probably get them out without any breakages because I have bought some new ones! A job for a fine summers day. Thanks again.
