Mk 2.5 door locks and power locking system. What's in there?

This is a ‘follow on’ from my posting Mk 2.5 Central Locking Problem.  If you’ve read that one, in which I suspected a problem with the alarm systems, forget the alarm systems, the problem seems to be with the driver’s door lock and associated ‘gubbins’.

If I unlock the driver’s door with the key, both doors unlock and the standard Mazda alarm immediately goes off - I’ve not been setting the Meta alarm recently - and sometimes (but not always) the door will immediately lock itself again.  After about 25 seconds the alarm stops and I can start the engine.  if I unlock the car from the passenger side, all is well, with the entire system performing perfectly.

The problem is obviously associated with the driver’s side door lock and/or power lock system.  As I’m in  the north west it’s obvioulsy raining and so i can’t take the door card off today to have a look, but in the meantime, can anyone tell me exactly what’s in there and how the system works please?  And if anyone’s had a similar probelm, what new parts I’m likely to need.

I would add that even with the under dashboard central locking fuse removed, I still have the same problem with the driver’s door only.

Moderators, can I respectfully suggest this post is moved to ‘Problems’ to see if I get a response?  I urgently need to know more about the central locking (a wiring diagram would be wonderful) and how the locking system interacts with the standard Mazda alarm.

The latest situation is as follows:

Drivers door - when unlocking, the alarm is immediately triggered even before opening the door. Both doors unlock OK.  It locks as normal and re-sets the alarm

Passenger door - when unlocking, both doors immediatley lock again.  If I hold the key in the unlock position and open the door, the power locks on both doors continually cycle between locking and unlocking.  The alarm is not triggered.  If I open a  door during the brief moment of it being unlocked, get in the car and close both doors, the locking/unlocking stops in the unlocked position.

Whilst on the move, I can sometimes hear a relay under the steering column clicking away and both doors will usually lock.

Any information or suggestions gratefully received.

 You have a PM.

Hi I have same problem Confused did you manage to sort it?

I have had exactly the same problem.  The alarm is deactivated by the passenger door or the boot but not the drivers door.  If you look inside the door you should see two wires running in a red sleeve up to the door lock, they terminate in a small switch which fits on the end of the lock barrel with two lugs.  One or both the lugs have either broken or become detached, either way the key is not operating the switch therefore the alarm will activate.
