Hope someone can help (and apologies if this topic is covered already but I can’t find the search facility).
I have a '06 mk3 and the passenger footwell is damp. This has led to some mould appearing. This has cleaned up easy enough, but any ideas why the floor is wet? And how do I get it dry, and how do I prevent it from happening again? I can’t find an obvious leak anywhere.
You’ve probably got blocked drain tubes. If you lower the roof then look down just outboard of the seat belts you’ll see a sort of grille in the plastic, check for water pooling below it. I reckon your dealer will sort it under warranty.
Great, thanks for the advice. I assume I’ll need to get the carpet up to dry it out properly? Unfortunately I don’t have a garage I can store it in while it dries out.
This is unfortunately a common problem, and will be caused by blocked drain tubes. You may also want to check under the carpet in the boot, mine was soaking. The tubes are fairly easy to locate, and to clean them out you will need something like a trombone brush. I bought one on ebay,
Mazda also released a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to resolve the issue of blocked drains, if you speak to your dealer they should be able to carry out the simple modification under warranty.
Check your VIN number there is a modification in the form of a filter to prevent leaves etc. clogging the drain tubes. After VIN no. 129271 it was fitted in production before this, as has been suggested, your dealer should rectify the problem under warranty.

Jeremy & Andrea, hope this helps - I discovered my 23 month old MX5 footwell was 3" full of water!. Found out the drain holes were blocked and was charged £37.00 plus vat to unblock drain holes (even though still under warranty) by local dealer . After several replies to my posting on this forum (many thanks folks) found out this is a problem with the MK111 and a modification can be done - a filter is added to the drain assembly to prevent leaves or other debris from clogging the drain. I contacted my local dealer with this information and was told ( re my vin number ) that my car already has the modification- so why is my car full of water?? Several phone calls to other dealers later I discovered that in fact my car DOES NOT have this modification. If you have a MK111 and the last 6 digits of the vin number are less than 129271 then you should enquire re modification. This is found on Mazda service bulletin . Bulletin number 19 under the heading- Water leaking- water in cabin from soft top. This information was disclosed by a Mazda dealer and is not available to customers. I finally had the modification fitted yesterday but only after several calls to my local dealer.
