MK1 1.8 auto idle speed

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the correct idle spped for a mk1 1.8 auto?
It idles at 850 just now but I think it could happily idle lower giving less creep in D and less of a bump going into D from N.

Cheers

Mine has done around 750 rpm for 15 years of my ownership.
I’ve just got into the default habit of foot on brake going into D from P or N
Cannot say I’m bothered much…or at all.
Not convinced dropping 50 odd rpm will make an appreciable difference.
These trannys were not designed for the 5…but saw global service in much bigger and heavier vehicles where you’d not notice.

Mine sits around 600. It does drop to 500 every now and again but no concerns with it. I’m on the brake shifting from P,N and D. Someone once told me these were in old black cabs.

Thanks, I’ll try turning it down to 750 from current 850.
Like driving the auto, will not be converting this to a manual

Quite,
They are far better, not to forget a fair tad nippier, than most inexperienced folks imagine.

How do you adjust the idle speed on a mx5 mk1?
I thought it was the screw beside the throttle cam but that seems to be just a throttle stop adjustment and no effect on the idle on my car.
