MK1 1600 Fuel Consumption

I am curious to know what fuel consumption figures other members are getting from their 1600’s.  Also does anyone know if ‘Men in Vans’ still come to your home to carry out an engine tune up, as used to happen in the 70’s?  Anyone got a recommendation? Eunice could use some engine TLC!

 Thanks,

Keith.

Low of 32 mpg, high of 38 mpg, averaged 34 mpg. 1.6 Mk1, 100,000 miles.

Why not do a service yourself? Fit new plugs, and new plug leads, do an oil change, fit a genuine Mazda oil filter. Change the coolant and back flush the system at the same time. Fit a new genuine Mazda rad cap and thermostat. You will not only save yourself a lot of money but you will also have the satisfaction of having done it yourself.  None of the above are difficult jobs to do and you will notice the difference straight away.

Thanks Polyana,

I am aware and have carried out most of the above already, however I need my ECU / fuel injectors / timing confirming as correctly set, which is not something I would wish to tackle myself, without the necessary equipment
