We seam to get quite a few questions on the forum about Mk2 and Mk2.5 cars that don’t get answered. Is there a great deal of difference between the Mk2 & Mk2.5 to the Mk1?
From what I know, they share the same basic ingredients (they must do, the hardtops fit) but suspension and engines are different. Mk2’s have loads more electrical stuff going on (OBDII is required on them all) and they’re generally a bit more techie. Mk2.5’s introduced the VVT on the engine (is this just the 1.8 though?) so that increases the complexity even more. Not sure whether its worth having specific technical boards for each model though, NA, NB and NC (as the Mk3’s are a whole lot different).
We debated this for some time when setting up the board. In the end we thought that as the cars, certainly the Mk1 and Mk2/2.5 versions, have so many similarities there would be a lot of duplication. Also the board is very big now, I don’t reckon we want any more individual forums. You may have noticed that in the garage section the FAQs are all prefixed, where necessary, by the NA,NB or NC letters in the heading
I of course prefer the Mark 1, but then i am a little biased[:)]
