I’m getting the car looked at next week, the guy in the garage thought it was the clutch bearing without me prompting him. I’ll let you know how I get on !
(Thanks once again, I wouldn’t know a clutch from a gearbox to be honest. Mechanically-minded I’m not.)
Been to get the car sorted out, it was indeed the clutch bearing, so its nice and quiet now and doesn’t scare pedestrians!
Took it to my local garage (New Line Motors in Greengates, Bradford) and I think they did a good job. Charged me the quoted price (£200+VAT) even though it took them 6 hours because everything was seized and difficult to remove.
Glad the problem is solved mate, but which bearing was it? The release bearing or the spigot bearing?
Release bearing or spigot bearing… now thats a big question to ask someone with my mechanical ineptitude ! I believe it was the release bearing
Depending on what mileage it has done I think I would have replaced the complete clutch including release and spigot bearing while the gearbox was out. If you get any clutch problems in the future it will all have to come out again. But that is just me it is each individuals choice.
Phil, that’s why I asked the question. A lot of clutch kits do not include the spiggot bearing.
