mk2.5 1.8 flat spot hesitation

Rob

I’ve not even seen let alone got my hands on the ecu set for a MK2.5 automatic. Occasionally orphaned ecus turn up but the last experience I had with one of these was getting water damage repaired by an electrician friend for a customer. I never get involved with water damaged ecus but this had to be the exception as no other choice.

Your idea of converting to manual especially as it seems that the car has low mileage and no rust is probably the best idea but…

if you want to pursue the ecu idea further there is some possibility…

This is available on ebay. Overpriced and probably of no use to anyone except possibly you. I have communicated with the seller before as has a number of orphaned ecus and none of the associated parts also required - he seems very reasonable despite obviously not knowing what parts should have been saved to make these parts easily useable. Get in touch with him and see if he has the reg. number and VIN for the car this ecu came off. Without one or other or preferably both this ends! If he has that information I would offer say £50 delivered with an extra payment if the proposed repair works. With the ecu, assuming it is undamaged and reg. number and VIN you may be able to get the codeword required to program a transponder chip.

The other problem is immobiliser. I am currently working with an auto electrician to develop an immobiliser emulator. There is a possibility that said emulator can be created from the ecu alone. Not sure about this and will need to check but first thing is for you to contact the ecu seller and be sure that he can supply the donor vehicle details.

If anyone reading this thread happens to know of the whereabouts of a breaking MK2.5 auto or ecu and associated immobiliser off such a car please get in touch.

Right OK.

For what it’s worth, my Mk1 1840cc auto engine’s ECU is identical to the manual other than…it’s “assocation” with the Auto-trans ECU?

Or so I was informed when changing the engine a few years back. It was pretty much plug 'n play.

Don’t know if that counts for much though.

Hi Scottishfiver, you are right, the Eunos 1.8 1993 - 199? with standalone ecu - BPF3(1993 - 5) or BPS5(1995 on) had exactly the same ecu for manual and auto. The Eunos 1.6 auto on the other hand had the unique B66B as opposed to the B63H fitted to the manual. Cannot comment on results of interchanging these as not tried but imagine there would be issue.

The MK2.5 auto has the factory immobiliser so aside from an ecu that has been proven to be necessary for correct running, the required immobiliser and transponder is required. Not sure how many MK2.5 autos were produced but would gladly swap the 6 x Eunos auto ecus I have and some for a MK2.5 ecu set from the auto.

Any update to confirm auto car needs the bp6p. Cant believe someone changed it to bp6m? If I change auto box to manual will the bp6m work then. My concern is car will have same problem as when I unplugged the transmission ecu as per Roabster Robbie, car still has same problem. Anyone got bp6p ecu ?

Mazda dealer called me back today to say they list BP6L as per chassis number? Never seen that ecu number but they advise that’s is correct number. Any ideas or are any available? Thanks. Robert

The Denso part number is:

279700-1232

That may assist the search.

You might just need to start trawling around known spares suppliers eg Autolink.

There will be a rotted out/crashed Mk2 Auto somewhere…

Thanks for that.

Searched all known suppliers and Google etc but nothing only 1 ecu with no immobiliser or key so its useless basically. Wonder if I do conversion to manual box will regular manual ecu work?? Hard to know without actually changing full car loom to manual.if I was to disconnect gearbox connectors temporarily should that remove the hesitation issue?

I found one online.

That’s where I got the part number for you.

I think it was around £300.00.

You might want to call Anthony at AK Automotive in NE England.

He used to transplant as a business. Usually VVT into Mk1.

It’s not had an MOT since 2017 apparently so only you can decide if it’s really all worth it.

Hopefully you picked it up cheap…very cheap.

Excellant. Thanks and I will call him

Hi , thanks for contact , but no , they don’t really do mx5 parts anymore, or this year anyway they advised.

Still looking just in case. Seems like manual conversion on the cards!!

Delete. Manual conversion in progress. Anyone want buy 45k miles automatic gearbox cheap!
