Hi folks,
I’ve got a 10th anniversary i’ve had for nearly 6 years and 100,000 miles.
The car was in to a main dealer to have the cigarette lighter socket replaced due to wear from my previous ipod transmitter. I noticed that the cigarette lighter was in the socket and it’s always been in the glove box (as i don’t smoke). This means that the mechanics used this to check the socket was working meaning they were in the glovebox.
When i opened the glovebox to put the lighter back in i noticed the latch was quite stiff. I checked the box wasn’t half locked (it wasn’t) and put the lighter in. However the next time i tried to open the box today i heard something snap, now the box won’t open and in either key position the latch feels as if the box is locked.
I was wondering if you knew a way to get into the glovebox
I know that if i can get the box open and closed again i can remove the lighter and put it back in the socket and then phone the delaer and basically blame them for it (i always hold the latch open when closing the box and never slam it shut).
However to do this i need the lighter out of the box so i can say “your mechanic was in the glovebox because the lighter is in the socket and i never have it there and now it won’t open - you need to fix it”.
Now obviously they’ll deny it but if the lighter is in the glovebox they’ll likely know that i opened it and they’ll say i broke it. However if it’s in the socket i can prove they took it out.
Funny how it never had a problem in the many years up till a mechanic was in there…
Can any of you folk help?
If you know of a way can you email me at terencej72@hotmail.com ASAP (so i can phone the dealer ASAP)
