MK3 2.0 Engine problems

Sounds good. Even though I made clear I wouldn’t be a customer of his because I’m not from the UK, he gave me some vital information. Helpfull guy!

The liner needing replacement sounds the same as engine rebuilders and parts specialists told me, they are too thin and will deform over time. This, among others, casues the car to use oil as the liner isn’t completely circular anymore. Shame it had to happen. My NC engine died within 500 miles of purchase. Even after having it checked at a garage before buying it. I knew they could use oil after some research but after reading more when my engine died I found out the engine is fundamentelly not that well designed. Paul also confirmed this on another board. Keep a very close look at the oil levels. Obviously no engine likes a low oil level but these engines seem to be more critical in that regard than others. Also, the oil pressure gauge in the car is FAKE. It’s fed by a signal from the ECU and not from an oil pressure sensor. Do NOT trust that gauge as it will keep showing correct pressure even when your oil level gets too low.

Just to confirm what nippan wrote, this is what I’ve found:

The MK2 is the same as 1.8 mk1’s which is basically a warning switch, which will only change under lack of pressure (as it was controlled by the pressure…i.e pressure = fine, would stay in centre all the time, no pressure = shows down and stays there) whereas the early engines gave a true reading of oil pressure measured by a sender inside the engine.

By what you’re explaining I’d assume the MK3 has gone back to using a proper oil pressure gauge, which is only a good thing as it gives a better reading of what’s going on in your engine.

EDIT!!: After a quick look, this is what I can find, The only device fitted to a MK3 which knows about oil pressure is an oil pressure switch (you know the on/off type). The gauge readout is based on a signal from the CPU, which calculated from the engine speed, temperature and the oil pressure switch. The gauge is then made to move in a way that simulates what a real oil pressure gauge would do.

So yes, it will move. But it’s still using the same idea as the old 1.8, just with some new fangled electrical stuff involved.

Hello. Sorry to jump on this but I have a 2007 nc 2.0 sport. Could I please ask what you paid for the rebuild. Thanks.

Hi, it was around £1,400.
