Mk3.5 radio issues

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2010 2.0 PRHT
  2. I’m based near: Glasgow
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Radio problems .

Radio works perfectly , then if I stop and have ignition off , loses all sound from the speakers.

Head unit stays working ( display shows station/volume etc and can change stations,/volume/functions but no sound - not even a crackle/static )

Ignition off/engine restart has no effect

When I leave overnight , it’s working again the next day -until I switch off and then it repeats above…

Any ideas ?

Edited to add - its standard radio , not Bose

If you switch off and disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes or so then reconnect, does it start working again?

Hi Robbie, I will try this the next time it happens and report back . Is it a known issue ?

thks

Jim

I’ve not heard of it, but suspect an internal fault with the unit and so wondering if powering it down and back up again trips it back into life. Like you leaving it off all night.

Reporting back - does not quite answer your question Robbie, but I think I’m leaning to head unit issue anyway .

Had the radio on, ( engine running) . Switched off & disconnected battery( to disable airbags as i was taking a seat out) .

After about 2 hrs radio did not work when reconnected .

So seems that it works, but after next ignition off ( or battery /power disconnect) it stops working .

Very strange . As before the head unit is live ,but no sound, so possibly something on the output/amplifier side of the head unit circuit.
