Mk3 aftermarket Exhausts - would be poll if I could.

I am going to change my Mk1 for a Mk3 in march next year and was doing a bit of rummaging around the aftermarket Zorst section to see what was around.

Now I am a Borla lover but at £460 for the backbox only, and a cut centre pipe, I feel it’s a bit steep

Next up is Racing Beat, this I am liking as I know of their quality and they also do headers and centre pipe.

Then we have the MX5 Parts IL Sport ones, I’ve got one on my Mk1 which is decatted and loud [:)]

My question is - what can you all recommend from your experiences? I don’t want to go too loud as I’m moving to the devon coast and the streets are narrow and noisy seriously though, I need to look after my neighbours hearing…

TIA

Hi Tim,

I fitted a Racing Beat back box to my Mk 3 a few months ago, very pleased with it, although exhaust sound is obviously highly personal!. Whilst definitely sounds louder than standard its not too noisy especially on a long motorway run (my previous Mk 1 MX3parts dual certainly was!). A club mate fitted a Larini which he removed after a couple of weeks as being far too loud.

The Racing Beat also looks great with the twin pipes being just the right size, not too big / boyracer, but not too small, also rolled ends which imho look much better than slash cut.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy… I’m moving away from too much noise, so the RB sounds just the ticket. I’ve heard varying things about the Larini set up so will go with what I know, you haven’t got a picture of the car from behind by any chance?

I fitted a Borla to my RX8 which had a superb sound, but the RB on an 8 sounded great especially at 9K… where did you get yours from, if you don’t mind me asking?

TIA

Hi Tim,

I got mine from Rotechniks near Reading, I collected it as they are not too far from us. Cost £318 in June lat year, including a 5% MX5OC discount which they agreed with only a little arm-twisting!

There are a number of photos on the below website which is run by a fellow club member, Paul, and which give you a good idea how th RB looks

Thanks again for the info and the link… I do like the launch edition.  I think my mind is made up to the RB, may go for the centre pipe and manifold too…[H][;)]
