Mk3 sticking fuel guage

    Hi
    I have a Mk3 ( 2006 ) I recently let the fuel run right down with red light on, and when putting £25 in nothing changed, needle in the same place and red light on, it took another £10 for the whole amount to register and the needle shot up.
    Is this a common problem , or the sign of something bad ?
