Mk3 wheel centre caps, can you remove the logo?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __mk3
  2. I’m based near: __East Midlands
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

I have diy re sprayed a set of alloys and I’m wondering if I can paint the centre caps to match.

Can I remove the logo from the cap like it looks like or will it just break?

Anyone have any experience with doing this already?

Thanks

Yes, I’ve done so for my daughters Mazda2.

get a cup and put the wheel caps in.
boil a kettle and pour boiling water onto the cup. leave it for a couple of minutes
take one of them out and with a screwdriver push the inserts from the inside and they will pop out. if you do it while they are cold its not as easy and they can snap.

Pretty much agree with the last post though hadn’t tried the hot water. On your pic, you can see four protruding pins/legs that are part of the emblem. To remove the emblem, I just used a small screwdriver to push the pins in and down (from the outer edge). It’s all plastic so don’t be too rough but they should pop out no problem as long as you are pushing from the right direction. Note that the 5th protruding pin is just a locating pin so that the emblem goes in the correct way (though I don’t see that it would make a difference. The four locating pins hold the emblem in securely so you should hear a click as they locate when pushing them back on.

Like this? Yes you need the warm them up to remove the logo and hot water works best,

Cups and boiling water? You may as well do the obvious and have a cuppa while you’re waiting for the caps to warm up

It doesn’t need to be boiling and you dont need to wait that long to release the logo. Make acup of tea or two while you wait for the paint to dry though.

@ckleanth Tried the boiling water today, bit of careful pushing from the back, very careful prising from the front, and bingo, it worked treat, thank you.
