In addition to chassis corrosion (remember Wheeler Dealers?) and rusty wings, spare a thought for the ash frame that attaches the bodywork to the chassis.

While this is remarkably resilient but it is exposed to the elements  and will need attention at some points in the car’spares lifetime.

Yes true but it can be refettled say every twenty to thirty years then have another life and in many cases the cars are handed down through families.

They started installing galvanised chassis on the classic cars in 1986, towards 1998 the bodies and wings were aluminium and the bulkheads were stainless steel. At one time you had to pay extra to have the ash frame dipped in Cuprinol but that is now done as standard. Norgan stopped galvanising the classic car chassis and went over to a high tech coating around a year or so ago but there was a time the aluminium wings had steel wire in them that fails and then the cars may need new wings.

The wings were then Superformed in aluminium which improved the longevity.

The Aero cars are full aluminium bodies and chassis.

If we look at MK1 and MK2 MX5’s that are now being refettled in a way it’s just what long term Morgan owners have been doing for years.
