Been to Haynes a few times. Have a red Mk1 in the Red Room if I remember rightly. The F1 section, and Red Room are good. Decent shop too, lots of car related paraphernalia. Cafe is good. Can also recommend the Fleet Air Arm too, sitting in the cockpit section of a Sea Vampire with my lad was a fond memory. Also a good section of an aircraft carrier deck too. I think last time I bought a ticket it lasted for a years use.
Thank you for the extra suggested route information, very useful ![]()
The Donnington collection is excellent, especially if you are a fan of racing
Been a while since I have been to Donington last time I went, before the pandemic, Toms fabulous collection of racing cars had been dispersed along with many exhibits on loan from the likes of Williams and McLaren to be replaced by a selection of Kevin Wheatcrofts incredible selection of mostly German WW2 vehicles. Iâd check to see if even that is still available to see now that Donington Park Circuit has been leased to Motorsport Vision (MSV).
We (SWM) have had club drives to
The Midland Air Museum https://midlandairmuseum.uk/ a great museum where you can get into most planes (ring to see if the Vulcan is open on the day you may visit)
Aerial view on google maps : https://maps.app.goo.gl/LPj8yNYhDjKwmsuR9
Also the Transport Museum in Wythall Birmingham (Mostly buses) https://www.wythall.org.uk/
And the Oxford Bus Museum https://www.oxfordbusmuseum.org/
Not to mention the awesome Coventry Transport Museum https://www.transport-museum.com/default.aspx
And The National Motorcycle Museum by J6 M42, Over 1000 machines https://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/
a couple of wild cards!
Muckleburgh Collection, a military museum on the North Norfolk Coast. Been a couple of times over the years, a a great part of the world to visit as well.
And somewhere we visited last year, which I had never heard of before then. National Tramway Museum Crich, Derbyshire. You can easily speed all day riding up and down on the trams!
If you want to go a bit further (and drive on some roads without potholes!) then Manoir de lâAutomobile Loheac France is just something else. Closely followed by MusĂ©e National de lâAutomobile, Collection Schlumpf, Mulhouse, France, aka the Bugatti Museum,.
Sorry you said UK, but if only for the lack of potholes donât rule out crossing the channel, and actually enjoy driving againâŠ.
Always up for a European road trip! The museum at Mulhouse looks fantastic, definitely one for the bucket list. Thank you for your suggestions.
If you are going to Mulhouse, an absolute must, the 24 Hour museum at Le Mans and Matra Museum at Romarantin Lanthenay are well worth a visit for sports car fans. Just across the border the Technick Museum at Sinsheim, Concorde and TU144 on one roof, and its sister The Technik Museum Speyer are well worth 2 days of any transport enthusiasts time.
I feel a European MX-5 trip encompassing visits to suggested venues is just waiting to be planned!
Grampian Transport Museum, Alford Aberdeenshire
Iâd be up for this!
Might be up for revisiting some of those I suggested, did I mention the small museum at the Nurburgring ![]()
Not mentioned. I canât read Nurburgring without thinking about Sabine. What a glorious force of nature she was, sadly missed.
Best Sabine quote IMHOâŠ
âI can do it faster than that in a van!â ![]()
I loved the part when she was chucking all the unnecessary bits out of the van to save a bit of weight and shave a few tenths off her lap time!
i spent many a happy hour at the Donington Collection. Sadly it closed some years ago.
Visited an absolute gem today in Malaga. https://museoautomovilmoda.com/
Superb eclectic collection of cars complemented by fashion items through the years which works extremely well. Beautifully curated and some very rare exhibits including a 1955 gull wing Mercedes and a Pininfarina designed 1935 Lancia which was drop dead gorgeous (or perhaps drop head gorgeous?).

Spent a hugely enjoyable couple of hours moseying around. Highly recommended! Lots of photos on Google maps and Trip Advisor.
