Following the news of Jim Steinman,s passing I have just listened to Bat out of Hell, haven’t had it on for a long time and I know that Meat Loaf is not to everyone’s taste (no pun intended) but Steinman’s lyrics tell great stories they are almost operatic. R.I.P Jim
Oh that’s a sad loss, I hadn’t heard.
Used to be a big Meat Loaf fan, first album I bought myself was “Bad Attitude” (the whole album was superb but “Sailor to Siren” in particular is epic, though not one of Steinman’s apparently), and was lucky enough to see him live in Plymouth several years back…
My personal favourite Steinman/Meat Loaf collaboration
Yeah that’s a great song, but for me it has to be “Heaven Can Wait”
Also a great song. I just like the above song because I can relate to a good chunk of the lyrics
Every Picture Tells A Story (LP) Rod Stewart
Nobody listening to the Bay City Rollers then?
Heard the news this morning
Barrie
The Obergruppenfuhrer who passes as my wife saw them at Tottenham Royal back in the day, when she was a teeny bopper.
Such an underrated band

My wife (SWMBO) was holidaying in Scotland as a ‘youth’ and has a pic somewhere of her with them? They were at some horseriding establishment and the group turned up. Her favourite wasn’t Les though, she liked Woody? Takes all sorts I guess

Strangely enough, and according to Johnnie Walker, the Ramones of all people had apparently sighted the Bay City Rollers as a band that had inspired them!
A couple of Mark Knopfler CDs Get Lucky (2009) and Tracker (2015), more poetic, folky, melodic and relaxed.
Somewhat different to the sounds of earlier Dire Straits or even (2000) Sailing to Philadelphia CD with the great Speedway At Nazareth (live version there)
My favourite Dire Straits album, and I have most, is their first, “Dire Straits” 1978. It is understated, not “in yer face” and is a showcase of talent, not over-amplification, so different from the later sound.
I’ve only got Dire Straits “Love Over Gold” and “Brothers In Arms” CD’s, but might need to get their debut one too…!
Rob
Have a listen to their Alchemy live double CD. It has some of the best versions, better than the originals.
The “Dire Straits” 1978 album was very “London” themed, and at the time I was spending a lot of time at weekends walking round London docklands, City, West End etc., taking photos so the music conjured up pictures, and photos the songs. Great combination. Slide show with the LP playing. Lines like:-
“My conductress on the No.19 she was a honey,
Pink toenails and hands all dirty with the money.
Greasy, greasy hair and easy smile.
Makes you feel nineteen, for a while.”
Wild West End.
Fabulous, very evocative.
“Home”, by Michael Buble, part of a favourites compilation on Amazon subscription HD stream. Played on my Echo studio pair + Echo subwoofer! Surprisingly good sound! Not forgotten the analogue stuff though, listened yesterday (AT LP-120 turntable coupled to my Sony STR-190 amp with Wharfdale diamond 9.1 speakers) to a Queen greatest hits vinyl double album.
Those set ups are all I’m allowed in the lounge!

Those 2 are probably my favourites, with Telegraph Road being my favourite track, but the ‘On Every Street’ album was also very good, especially Planet of New Orleans
