MX5 cooler than a Bentley

A curious thing happened today at my local village shop, a Bentley Continental GT came in and absolutely no one took a blind bit of notice of it, but as I was walking back to my MX-5 NC a man with his kids were looking at it and saying how cool it was, as they walked past the Bentley they had zero reaction, so much so, I don’t think they even saw it

I read that an entire MX-5 weighs less than the Continentals engine and gearbox.

Or the Bentley driver’s wallet.

On weight , BTW , I read a test of the Ineos Grenadier. It weighs nearly 3 tonnes, a Caterham’s worth more than most of the opposition , is slower than most 3 pot Fiestas and unlike my cheap as chips Duster 4 x4 , it doesn’t even have locking diffs..

I think the MX-5 is cooler than most cars, but then I’m a man in his fifties with an MX-5. The fact that they’re affordable, great at what they do and importantly essentially classless is what does it for me. Anyone with money can buy an expensive car, but I’ve never believed it’s cool to wear wealth on your sleeve. When I see someone in a car that costs more than the average house it makes me a little sick in my mouth, and that’s got nothing to do with envy.

Understandable …..because they are attracted to a vehicle that doesn’t need to ‘shout about it’ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I doubt you are the real doctor [David Tennant] but aged 68 yrs this April I’ve seen them all

He is still my favourite Dr. Who

Not parked near any Bentleys but a lady spotted Madge just now and said ■■■ that’s wonderful, does not happen everyday.

The Bentley’s we can’t afford are still pretty cool. I doubt you could walk past this one without seeing it.

It is on Auto trader for £124,000.

And you can take the roof off :joy:

They do make rather splendid workshop aprons suitable for a bit of quality detailing

pulling up and parking in three MX-5s almost outside the casino on Monaco a few years ago and attracting more attention than all the other lesser “super cars” around tells me all I need to know about how cool MX-5s are…

I think it’s cool when you see something that expensive that without a personalised number plate. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Any car is cooler without a personal plate, unless the personal plate is exceptionally funny.

Like the wonderful plate I saw years ago on a TVR Chimera in the Silverstone car park - BAD 541T

I would sell many many things (including my MX-5) for an Arnage T (plus running costs).

I don’t mean to be rude mate, but why would you sell a brilliant car like an MX-5, for an ostentatious bloated money pit like a Bentley?

The Arnage T was a poster car from my teenage years. The allure has never left. I wouldn’t do it now but my needs and wants from a car will likely change over time. No time soon though. Just an itch that might need scratched at some point.

For me it was always a Ferrari Dino GT. A superb car but still an ostentatious money pit.

Having said that, i would buy one if i had a decent garage and loadsamoney!

Its nice to dream. Would probably be an E Type for me. But then I never dreamt that one day I’d own an Mx-5!
