Hi all whilst thumbing through some car mags in local supermarket came across intresting artical re a £1000 challange the cars involved were a Sarb,Bmw,MG and MX5 eunos the mx5 came out tops in the first round of tests and continues next month
the magazine is called EVO and the edition is febuary 2009
Right. Pedantic head on, and without being arsed to go get a copy of the mag - was it an MX-5 or a Eunos?
Main reason for asking is that if it was a Eunos, it’s more likely to have aircon than an MX-5 (UK spec if you haven’t worked that out yet) and therefore even more impressive.
Like I said - pedantic head on, if it’s a Eunos, it’s not, strictly speaking, an MX-5. It’s a Eunos - roadster meant for the Japanese market. If it were an MX-5 it would be meant for the UK market and therefore a lower spec. Title is self contradictory. It’s either one or the other.
You are absolutely right - it is, or at least it should be. But I’d still like to know (without having to go out and buy a copy of Evo - so I’m a lazy git ok?) whether it was a Eunos or UK spec.
I have to stick up for my 5 here. My UK 1.8i S has ABS, PAS, electric aerial, mirrors, and windows. Scuff plates, cat 2 immobiliser, fog lamp, analogue oil guage etc… (all standard equipment). I’d hardly call it a ‘lower’ spec just because it’s a UK car and doesn’t have aircon and headrest speakers!
I feel there is sometimes a snobbery amongst a small section of Roadster owners who dismiss UK Mark 1’s as being downgraded rust buckets when this simply isn’t true.
I love my UK 5! (don’t forget she was built in the same factory as her brother and sister Roadsters he he)
No snobbery meant here - I obviously haven’t made myself clear - UK MX-5 didn’t come with aircon in the Mk1s as standard (mostly), and as that is a serious drain on the power output … knowing whether it was a Eunos or MX-5 - and therefore with or without aircon - would have a bearing on the power loss over the years info…
That’s all. The differences are subtle but hp is hp right. No insults intended to any 5 - I love’em too much to do that
Sorry didn’t mean to come across as harsh which i know i did which was unintentional. At the end of the day ALL Mark 1 owner’s, be it Roadster or UK, have to admit we all have a cracking car
I have a dream…a dream where every Mark 1, be it UK, Eunos or Miata, will not be judged by the country it was registered in…but by virtue of it being such a stonkingly great car to drive
I may just buy a copy of EVO then, I hate it normally as it seems to focus on speed more than enjoyment normally and i dont think they are mutually exclusive.
Im on my 4th 5 now and 3 of them were JDM imported models the other was a 1.8IS 1994 UKDM imported model
Doesn’t matter whether it’s on or not - the unit gives drag to the belt, and therefore inhibits the power output of the engine - same as having power steering - they’re both on the same belt as well, so just having them on the car will drain the power output of the engine - so yes it does make a differrence. Folks don’t take the air con units off their cars jjust for the weight savings you know…
