MX5 Mk3 p/x rip off prices

All that means is they had plenty of headroom to drop the price on the car they have. They’re passing that on to you in the form of a high part ex offer instead of discounting the new car had you gone there with cash.

What’s your gut feel? Deal or no deal?

Blobby blobby blobby!!!
:hearts:

Out of all the dealers I have talked to not one dealer was interested in a cash sale for price reduction. The car I have been offered is in the price range that most tend to be if you look at Autotrader so price headroom drop is probably there but the cost to change to me would be far less than the initial car I looked at.

Gut feeling at the moment is on hold, Rodders car has got my attention, seeing what that is all about.

If you can find one from Roddisons that suits then buy it. I got my first NC from him, viewed it (on a ramp) bought it.
I know he stands by any car he sells, treats customers very well. I went hunting for my second NC, consider him first, nothing available at the time so bought privately.

When I meant cash I meant a straight up purchase outright. I too realise that a lot of dealers don’t seem to care if you pay cash or not (but I’m sure independents would secretly prefer the odd cash sale).

I see what you mean now, outright purchase was considered but have now lost any interest in the first one.

Got my NC last year from a independent dealer . Cash got £500 off .plus new mot and a service . It was october so end of the summer that may be the reason i got the deal.

I’d agree, the Roddisons one looks good value for a SE+ spec so perhaps better as a keeper.

I’ve been looking at 1.5 NDs as a potential replacement for my NA and saw THIS yesterday.

Rang up today to enquire about the MOT advisory only to be told it’s sold. So I guess if you find one you like (eg Rodders), get in quick.

Have made contact with Rodders & his car looks great. Insurance is an extra £74, only just started the policy so that is good, going for a test drive next week, plus the colour is one of those I like.

If all goes well then I will have a keeper for the rest of my driving life as the current one was my first MX5 to get the taste.

Sadly Rodders car spec is not quite what I would like, amazing price and amazing car, someone should snap it up.

In the end I decided that I will SORN the current car & keep it as it is worth more than £800 or £1500 or whatever to me. I can always sell the hardtop & wheels for £1000 combined then just buy a newer ND over winter, I’ll then have to satisfy myself with 2 excellent condition MX5 cars in my garage for summer use. If Rodders car had a better spec then I would have pounced but any newer ND needs some creature comforts at least for everyday use.

If it comes to fruition I will hopefully bag a Recaro Edition ND, set my heart on that at the moment, some decent ones about but will take my time.

I went to see rodders mx5
I know it’s only the SE+ but it’s very tempting,
No Bluetooth connectivity is only gripe ,
but it’s only a second/ weekend car :red_car: :thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking:
Still considering it tho :white_check_mark:

It is a fantastic car and an absolute bargain, I considered retro fitting stuff but in the end it would be more hassle than what is was worth, best just buying a car with it already fitted.

Buy a Bluetooth adaptor on Amazon for less than £10 but it being the base model the headunit is as basic as they come from reading so not sure if BT compatible.

With mk3.5 & 3.75 - If the car ticks all your other boxes - you can put an aftermarket touchscreen unit in for under £300 and bring the car up to date ( bluetooth, android auto/apple carplay, music from sd card or usb stick, DAB radio etc. )

I don’t have bluetooth but i use the aux lead for music and calls, i was going to swap out for touch screen etc but used the aux lead and the music really improved in volume

I have had my eyes on a couple of ND Recaro models & noticed that the prices are falling week by week at the moment, first few weeks they were circa £100 drop, now both are down by £750 overall.

Post Xmas does the car trade pick up or is it doldrums till spring & maybe now is a good time to move on a purchase ?

I noticed specialist mx5 dealers might just sit on the stock and wait till the weather is better again without necessarily reducing any prices, but traditionally convertibles were always a harder sell once summer is over. I did see an article a day or so ago saying used car prices are plummeting across the board - I haven’t noticed this myself but it was bound to happen at some point after a prolonged period of very strong prices.

Got my mx 5 last october from a dealer . Been on the forecort since late august . Had a test drive then told them i had no trade in . OK we will nock £500 off as we don’t want it sitting there till next year… Plus a full service and new MOT…

I know dealers can sit on stock for long periods. I went to look at one and the photos were clearly from last winter as the dash displayed 2 degrees in the pics and the weather in the pics looked awful. I viewed in September, so he’d had it a long time and the price was firm. Didn’t buy that one but it was nice (on the surface at least).
