MX5 Monza Servicing

Hi all,

I just called MX5parts to see if I could get them to do some work on my car which I need done by the summer - but their guy said their workshop was shut as their mechanic is ill so didn’t think they could do anything to help :frowning:

They are not particularly close (120 miles), we are in Sevenoaks Kent, but I had read good things and have bought from them before online… so, my question is whether anyone can recommend someone in the Kent/Sussex/Essex area who can do some repairs before I go traveling in Europe (hopefully in summer).

The car is a Mk1 Monza 1.6 and there are a few bits I need done;

New discs and pads front & rear (prefer ‘premium’ brands like Brembo)
• Fit new o/s/f caliper (I already have a brand new one)
• Flush and replace brake fluid
• Full service… feels a bit gutless – wont need spark plugs as I gave oil/filter change and new plugs last summer (about 100 miles ago)
• Check clutch – had brand new 3 piece clutch fitted in July 2016 (142,300 miles) – done less than 2000 miles since fitting! But as pedal is inconsistent I think there may be a slave/master cylinder issue – or more likely fluid needs flushing & replacing!

Also need the suspension and geometry given the once over in case there is anything which needs doing.

Oh, there is also one cosmetic issue - the front subframe is quite rusty, so could do with wire brushing and hammerite!

I can do most of these jobs, but just dont get the time now and its also a lot easier on a ramp

Anyway, any recommendations of local mechanics/garages who are not rip-off merchants would be gratefully received.

Would have though MX5 Restorer were closer to you then MX5 Parts!
They are an MX-5 specialist and do servicing et al. alongside rust repairs so worth a call.

Thanks Ian

I will look them up - I only defaulted to MX5 Parts as they seem pretty on the ball, but just a shame theyre closed at the moment.

Cheers

I’d save you’re money - I doubt anyone will be going to Europe this summer

Thanks @march - to be honest the brakes need doing quite urgently as they are shocking - so would like to get it all done anyway… even if its just to drive in UK.

Spotted these on MX5 Parts - which seem reasonable price, just a shame they cant fit them, so will probably buy Brembos from EuroCarParts @ £60 a pair for disks and fit them myself!
