Mx5 NC Import Roadster

Hello, new member here. I recently picked up this MX-5 NC as my second car!

I am in love with it. It has an automatic transmission (which I know is like marmite to the community) but as my daily driver it is ideal and a lot of fun too!

I’m wondering if anyone else has a similar import model, it’s a 2005 2 litre Japanese import NC, and if so what are the quirks of these cars that you maybe don’t get on the non import models.

Looks great, nice spec with that interior.

And absolutely nothing wrong with the auto, if it best suits your needs :clap:t3:

Wishing you many happy miles ahead.

Hi Benjamin,

Have a look for a 100 yen coin under the passengers carpet, often put there for good luck! Mentioned here -

Ofiaich

Quirks wise, you have the proper rear light clusters without the ugly filter lens that is added to UK/Euro cars.

Someone has added a UK drivers side one, presumably for the red fog.

No coin under my carpet unfortunately, although there is a Japanese flare in the footwell that expired in 2008 :joy:

I used to have an imported Mitsubishi FTO (which stood for Fresh Touring Origination - I kid you not). Great car but very stiff suspension so great on the twisties but terrible on the motorways. Never fell in love with it like I have with my ND. Anyway, I digress. The reason for posting is that in Japan they don’t use salt on the roads so the FTO had no rustproofing. Worth checking if it’s the same with your MX-5. My FTO was 1995 ish vintage ( I had it a long time ago) so thing may have changed.

Lovely looking interior, much more cheerful than the UK options. Looks like your car has received typical rust & corrosion renovation following MOT failure, best advice I can give - spend a warm spring day with your new best friend Bilt Hamber S50 cavity wax, enjoy an hour or three applying this wonderful treatment inside the cavities and underneath the wheel arch lips and behind the wheel arch liner.

Thank you for the comment! Yes I did deal with a bit of rust however that is all sorted, welded, and sealed now. I will definitely take your advice and do this soon, maybe sooner than I thought with the sunny weather recently!
