Yes, a blanking plate is a plate that blanks off a hole.
That looks more elaborate than I remember mine being.
Are you sure that’s not the fitting the tube fastens to, when fitted??
Perfectly explained. So, Hence the description ‘“Blanking plate “ got it now Thanks Mick… However, 999 does pose an interesting point. So I will look Just out of interest to see if the facility on the bulk head of the NC1 had the hole Pressed into the bulkhead or whether it Hadn’t been ‘Thought Of’ back in the days of the earlier NC1 Circa 2006/7/8 models… Not to arrive as a feature until 2009 etc, Thanks for clearing this up clearly, Thanks 999 and Mike … Ray in Essex…
Thanks 999. Good picture you have provided Since there is no tube going to the picture I assume that it’s of a blanking plate ? If I am correct then don’t feel a need to reply Unless you want to, Your blanking plate does seem an elaborate affair. I’d have thought that all that was needed was a simple plate across the hole in the bulkhead. But perhaps my much earlier model wouldn’t have your description of a blanking plate because the imitation noise facility hadn’t even been on the drawing boards back in the days of the early NC1s ! But all very interesting stuff to read… best regards from Ray
Yes that’s the spigot left when removing the tube, hence my ammended description. I couldn’t find the real deal (picture) well not quickly anyway.
Off out to play with mine now, 3 corners brake overhauled yesterday, got one rear to do now thanks to the rain putting an end to play yesterday.
So the fitting in the pic incorporates the membrane that transmits sound but not fumes into the cabin.
No wonder it looks rather elaborate.
Mick’s pic, not mine btw, Ray.
No that’s just the end of it that goes into the bulkhead. Mine below, this is what attaches to the bulkhead, the snake of a tube that turns right and ends up coupling with the intake. The wider section top right is the sound enhancer, it’s got like a baffle in it for want of a better word.
I’ve just this morning made a gasket out of some foam rubber and blocked mine up at the bulkhead. I just reattached the tubing so it still looks as original.
That is one clean engine bay
Credit goes to Geoff the previous owner on that one👍
It’s getting a little dusty in there now though, another little job.
Sorry for bumping after 3 years ago this thread, but does anyone know the part number of this pipe? (white part) and where to order. Many thanks
Have a look here QUARTER WINDOW & TRIMS | Mazda MX-5 Europe 11.2017 | Parts Catalogs | PartSouq and see if you can find it within this resource.
It is a Mazda part so it will be available from a Mazda dealer or try MX5 Parts.
