Mx5 ND2 30th - Road and Track finding the balance

Just to give an update with the thicker 75w140 oil, now the temperatures have dropped again it is certainly more difficult to get into gear from cold than the 90 weight oils. However when temperatures were above 10 degrees I found it fine from cold so it’s very temperature sensitive.

When the car is warmed through however the gearbox just feels slicker and better to use. A good spring/summer/trackday oil then. I would then use the US Ford motor craft stuff for silky smooth changes in winter.

Hope that helps.

Great read and very informative not quite at your stage yet but some modifications completed and no doubt more to follow. I’ve played about with caster, camber and found a definite improvement on steering response which I felt was very light with the standard set up. I’m now running the following setup
FRONT:
CASTOR – 8.0 DEGREES (BASICALLY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE)
CAMBER – 1.8 DREGREES NEGATIVE (AGAIN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE0
TOE IN – 1/16”, 0.15 DEGREES OR 9 ARCMINUTES TOTAL
(1/32”, 0.075 DEGREES OR 4.5 MINS PER SIDE)
REAR:
CAMBER – 1.8 DEGREES NEGATIVE (MATCHING THE FRONT)
TOE IN – 1/16”, 0.15 DEGREES OR 9 ARCMINUTES TOTAL
(1/32”, 0.075 DEGREES OR 4.5 MINS PER SIDE)

I’ve not noticed any excessive tyre wear and Ive been running this for a couple of years now. after fitting 25mm spacers front and rear and included a picture of how it sits and looks on the road.

Can you remember what boot spoiler you went with? Yours looks a little more aggressive than the genuine Mazda one.

That’s a rather ‘ happy accident’ of a number plate👍
