MX5 Parts Mk1 lowering springs - which way up?

 These springs have one end which is “finished” i.e. the coil ends in a flat surface, whilst the other end looks like the coil has been cut.  Which end goes on the top?

I would put the flats to the top as the dampers have a ridge or hump on them

to stop the springs moving round and sqeaking. That is what I did.

 Thanks for that.  There is indeed a hump to stop the spring rotating.
