Sparticus?
Jefro??
Come on give us a clue
Here’s mine. The CP are my initials, 54 is the year of my birth, and of course MXS is as near to MX5 as DVLA will allow.
Still waiting for my new V5 for my new car but now it’s going to be 6 weeks as the trader sold the car to the wrong name and address! Oops! So here’s a photo on a wood floor for the time being.
When I lived on the Isle of Wight I found this plate, MX5 IOW X. I’ve since moved and sold the plate to another MX5 I.O.W. dweller.
Like the IOW plate. There is something similar that I looked at still available from the DVLA.
MX5 5UN X is up for £250
Thats a good one! I’m back to my original plate now which has the letter OMZ on it, which may or may not have been spaced so the letter O looks like a zero and the MZ is alone and referring to MaZda…
I love this thread!
I ordered an MX-5 personalised plate the day I bought our car.
Hubby said: “Whatever makes you happy” right up till I told him the price!
(A bit over £300, all in IIRC) I pointed out that they also had another plate
for sale: “K6” for £675,000, so £350 was an absolute bargain!
Here’s a pic hubby took when I changed the plate.
(In keeping with my Username, the numberplate is anonymised! )
I also made Hubby strip out the photo Metadata.
(However, bonus points are available for the eagle-eyed readers who’ve noted
the Numberplates Supplier names, detailed at the bottom of each plate!)
Love the *** *** plate. Great choice. So much better than the original **** ***. £650 was a bit high for *** *** though. So understand your choice.
If you want to buy my *** **** plate give me a ring on ***** ****** or email me at *******@ ****.com.
Edited to correct phone number. Had transposed * and *. Sorry.
Big smiles.
Seeing as only a few MX-5 OC readers can see this thread,
And as it’s not visible to the rest of the net…
here is the un-redacted plate.
MX-5 Mark3 & a random X at the end. I was so chuffed to get this.
When one of my friends (who’d been urging me to join MX-5OC for ten years)
saw the car for the first time she immediately mentioned the personalised number plate.
I looked blank and inferred that I hadn’t noticed the Reg.
She looked at me quizzically and said: "And I suppose that the seller name is Mr SmokeToMuch? "
Better cut down then. Never heard that? Takes me back. Nostalgia’s not what it used to be.
G for road name, 19 for house number and dpt for initials, just in case I forget my name and where I live😊
Ive seen one or two square plates (motorcycle type) fitted to front grills, how is this achieved? Is there a square back plate available?
Just seen a universal mount on “demon tweeks” site £10,worth a pop?
Square plates are only legal on JDM grey imports, The Mk 1 Eunos is a case in point which has a different rear panel to UK cars, If the car was first used / registered in the Uk they are illegal.
Why??
They are legal for trucks.
They are legal for motorcycles.
Why are they not legal for cars?
You sound certain about it but it makes little sense.
ANPR Cameras ability to read plates is one reason,
I have just gone through this when I registered by 1994 Eunos for the first time last August.
As my car was first used in Japan I am allowed to display square number plates front and back the plate I am allowed to have the same font size as on a motorbike.
If the car was UK registerd at first use I would have to display oblong number plates with the larger standard font.
My Eunos with the small plates with small digits does not appear on the MOT database as the MOT is on the chassis number.
You need to achieve the correct font size and spacing and that will not fit on the small square number plate. Yes they look sub-optimal but it is sadly the law. You would also fail an MOT for incorrect spacing.
