my hotmail and facebook account been hacked!

i was surfing the net happily this afternoon with MSN messenger online, then it says I got an email from eBay, therefore I clicked onto the notification. Then on my firefox it asked me to type in my hotmail password (normal hotmail login page), but my password just doesn’t work anymore!

tried it many times with new/old/used passwords, still it keeps putting me off. I then tried to go to facebook, again my password just doesn’t work anymore! I moved on to other sites (ebay, OC forum, etc) and all worked fine. Turned on IE and see if there is any difference, surprisingly I can still go into my hotmail inbox without typing in any password, probably because I am still on messenger. Took that chance to change my facebook password and got the facebook back under control. However several hours later today my facebook password has been changed again.

Slightly worried by money-related sites such as ebay and paypal, immediately went there and changed my password.

Went back to hotmail, tried the “forgot my password” solution, there were 2 options
1. it asked me counrty of origion and “password hint question” which is my favorite character, seems like a cartoon character
For god sake when i applied that email account I was only 8 year old or so and the answer to that question could be anything! I tried donald duck, power rangers, etc but still no sign of success
2. Send me instructions of resetting password through email, and the instructions will be sent to my HOTMAIL MAILBOX which I am now asking for password for that! What are they thinking![:@]

Clicked onto the HELP page, filled in some info which I think is designed for people like me, they said it may take up to 24 hours until they solve the problem. Done that at 5pm today and now still waiting for the reply mail sent to my secondary email.

I guess there is nothing to do with hotmail security, probably done by someone who knows me and hates me, and somehow figured out my password (my password is not super complex ones). my hotmail is almost as important as my bank account, as all my contacts and important stuff are inside

Has anyone come up with such experience before? I am worried! [::(]

A couple of years ago, my daughter split from her boyfriend, who at the time was studying computer science at Uni. The split was messy and he decided to “hack” into her FaceBook account and change several things. I have worked in I.T for 30 years and tried for a week or so to find how he had done this. I came up with no real answer. I got in touch with FaceBook and explained the situation, they, in turn said that it is impossible to hack their system. I then recieved an email from them stating that there seems to have been some spurious activity on the account and the account had been closed. BE WARY!

I guess the boyfriend actually knows the password for her facebook therefore he can login without any ‘hacking process’, which i guess same for me here someone watched me typing in my password/somehow guessed what it is then logged into it and changed the password!

MSN just replied me email providing me instructions of how to register a LIVE account with an email outside HOTMAIL, which is completely helpless while I want my HOTMAIL back!!

Do you think the title of this thread might be a bit OTT? It gives the impression that the overall security of Hotmail and Facebook has somehow been compromised and users’ accounts are at risk, when in fact it’s just your accounts that have been accessed without your permission - quite probably, by the sound of what you’ve said, by the very simple act of someone discovering and using your password!

does it look any better now?

I wasn’t being unsympathetic - I can imagine how much of a PITA it is to have had your accounts abused. But the thread title rather suggested something much more widespread and sinister.

Facebook gets hacked regularly, you should never put your personal details in your profile. But then if you are over 14 and on facebook I guess you had it coming - it’s social darwinism [6]

 The above is TRUE!

As I said further up the thread, I have worked in I.T for Thirty years. Just recently, I have been involved with the migration away from Hotmail and Facebook for employees (Yes people do access these from works computers!) We have had word from other of our divisions around the globe that there are certain criteria that if they arise, can be harmfull to the local area network and the wide area network. The main culpits are people who use Hotmail & Facebook to transfer files. These are by no means an industry secure way of communication. If you do use these accounts to socially interact or move data, as I said earlier, BE WARY!

My Hotmail has gone I have not been on the computor for over a week I cannot get past my pass word stage I dont have personel stuff but other peoples e-mail address and some mazda stuff, who ever is doing this is getting all your friends address as well.If I could get my hands on them I would--------- well you know what what they derserve
