My MK1 1.8 import - a long winded progress diary

Finally got the right size of reg

Trimmed it to a more reasonable size, rounded the edges and gave the burrs a file, added a new hole to the bracket to make it sit in a better position and a fresh coat of black

Also picked up some cable to finish off the wiring for the davefab bottle

One thing i couldnt work out was ■■■ this thing is

My best guess was a washer level sensor as it came out of the old washer bottle and thst looks to be right but a lot of people i asked hadnt seen one before, apparently it only came on the mk1s with abs, unsure if abs was a uk option or jdm only

However its now unplugged and in ~the pile~

I doubt the me221 would even recognize it anyway, maybe freed up an output for something else in the future

Yep, looks like the screen wash level sensor to me. With ABS cars (was available in the UK but quite rare) having the washer bottle hidden below the bumper a level sensor was required as a visual inspection was not possible.

Ah hero! It has been retired for now anyway, i quite liked the bottle being in the front bumper as it kept it out the way, but after a couple trackdays i noticed you could wiggle the whole bottle around because the bracket was nearly rotten through, i reckon if the bottle was full it wouldve tried to self delete taking a corner at pace

I have that issue with mine. The washer bottle bracket is very crusty and slightly leaking. I just need a relocation solution for a import car with ABS.

I got lucky getting this davefab bottle second hand, their website seems to be down for updates just now and theres not much of any of his stock between any other sites

Finished finifinished fitting and wiring the davefab bottle, just needing a straight through fitting foe the washer lines to tody that up a bit and the washer motor does work but its got a big crack in it and it sounds very sad

Although on looking for new motors mines seems to be completely different from any of the others i can see online so might need to get a new one and the plug for it and just replace the plug

Couple a few of the sticky back cavle tie holders tidies up the cable quite nocely as the bulkheads getting a bit busy with it having all the extra lines for abs which i would like to remove but ill need to do some more research on it as im pretty sure id need a new master cylinder and thebother type of valve bit on the back which would be able to take a brake stopper then all new lines throughout, seems like a bit of a job but im sure there are braided line kits available

Apart from that id quite like a nice scuttle panel cover, gunna get it motd soon so that ots ready for the sun coming out next year

After fitting the top bumper trim back in my cheap headlight vent kept catching it, even from first glance at it you can tell its not the right shape

So the only possible solution was buy a nice one

Took around 10 days to get here and it looks glorious

Even came with a carbon miata metal badge ($30 to buy on its own )

This was a bit of a test order from carbon miata to see what the delivery time etc would be like

It was delivered faster than i thought it would and it was packaged extremely well with a good 4 or 5 layers of bubble wrap and foam

Since this test was successful ill be ordering more parts, another headlight cover to match (maybe unvented, undecided yet) and they do a spoiler that i absolutely love so im sure ill get tempted to make another order soon

The new headlight cover looks great but there is a gap down the left hand side of it which i wasnt expecting, ill see if i can play around with it but i dont think theres any adjustments to move it that way, i messaged carbon miata and got a cryptic message back so ill keep playing with it

It also passed its mot yesterday and with how cheap insurance is fornit i just renewed that for a year, now its ready and waiting for the decent weather next year
