NA 1.8is Timing belt

Hello All.

What is the life expectancy on a timing belt on the 1.8?

I have just picked up a MX5 and whilst they are servicing it as part of the sale they offered to do change the belt with a full kit that comprises of a new timing belt, a timing belt idler pulley, a timing belt tensioner pulley, a tensioner spring and a cam cover gasket. He offered to do it fo cost of part which are £60 and £30 labour.

My car has just over 101k miles. Is this a good deal?

Hi Papanicola

Mazda recommend a change at 57,000 so would be due again at 114,000 and at that price I would snap his hand off.[Y]

Cool. I thought it sounded good. They seem real nice people. They have quite a few MX5’s and they all seem to own them as well. They are currently doing a full service including brakes and MOT included in the sale so he offered to go halves on the timing belt.

Excited about collecting it even though technically it is for the Mrs.

Where are these people - I need a cam belt changing and am in London

They are based in Dormansland near Lingfield in Surrey.  The price is due to me getting the car from them but they seem really reasonable.  We are going halves so I guess it is normally £180-ish.
