Building and growing the Club’s Car Competitions as an important part of not only the Club’s Rallies but also as another facet of membership. It is an important aim of the Club’s Competitions Coordinator Richard Nicol to bring a continuity to the judging process that will hand on from Rally to Rally. Over the past few years we have seen many of the cars that enter into the Club’s Competitions go on to enter other Competitions organised by a number of clubs and organisations across the country and in many cases our Members have had great success, supporting this with a judging system that feeds back to the competitors on areas where their car scored is an important aim for the Competitions.
The update to the Car Competition rules and judging manual over the winter months had their first outing at the Spring Rally in Pitlochry, where we saw a great turnout and prizes awarded across all of the Classes. The feedback and updates from the Spring rally has seen some very minor updates on the parameters of the lightly modified class to allow in principle 5 internal and 5 external modifications to better differentiate the more heavily modified cars as well as some logistics and an agreement on new Cup Trophies for winners. With the emphasis on how well your car is kept and worked on, cars can be entered into anyone of the following 5 Competition classes, in brief these are:
• Standard Car class - Factory standard car, Mazda genuine accessories permitted.
• Light modification - Some cosmetic and light modifications to standard cars with aftermarket accessories
• Modified - Numerous enthusiast modifications and also forced induction cars
(*except standard fit)
• Ultra Modified - Radical vehicle alteration, e.g retro body kit or MX-5 kit-car conversion
• Daily driver - Any car that is in use regularly, subject to age and mileage (bodywork and cabin judging only).
To enter the Competitions all you need to do is email your interest to the coordinator at;
carcomps at mx5oc.co.uk. You will be sent back a copy of the judging and scoring manual and the competitor entry document to fill in your details and choose your preferred entry class, based on where you feel your car should compete. The cut off for entry will be Sunday 15th September to allow for the Rally team to set out the Competition plots for the day. After this time we will be unable to enter vehicles into the Competitions.
And just to add, the Eastern Region National Rally Team are looking forward to record entries, so get polishing…!!!
