NB - EGR valve fried the ECU

Hi,

I’m seeking help for my retired father who’s beloved NB recently had a blown EGR valve which blew an ECU. He had the valve fixed and found an electrician to remove and replace the ECU by sending it off to be fixed and reprogrammed. The new (refurbished) ECU turned out to not work either (code P1499).

Can anyone recommend a solution or known company that has good ECUs? I don’t think the electrician charged him but he also has said he can’t find another working ECU.

Many thanks.

Hi

Unfortunately quite a common issue with the MK2.5 cars where EGR fails, stepper motor? and takes out the relevant controlling chip in the ecu.
You will require a replacement ecu and associated parts.
I can assist with this, please private message me.

Not sure if you fixed this - bur for anyone else with a similar problem I did find the solution.

My MX5 is now fixed thanks to @rhino666 at MX5Bitz who sent me a new ECU and recoded my current keys to work with it - I highly recommend talking to Rob.
Also fitted a new EGR from MX5Parts (on Ebay)
No more warning light
