NC Brake Lights without Ignition, Normal?

My 2011 NC Miyako brake lights function without turning on the ignition, is this normal behaviour?

My other car experiences are mostly Ford and ignition is needed before the brake lights work.

Interesting behaviour if it’s normal because I can’t see why I would be braking if my car isn’t moving.

Help please.

Thanks
Roy

Not noticed in MX5 yet but definitely had it in other cars been driving 20 years before found out its normal.

This is common on many makes of car.
Could be useful in an instance such as being towed. On the NC I previously owned the brake lights worked when the ignition was off, as do those on my current ND and BMW 1 series.

Great, that stops me buzzing out the fuze box to check it. Towing makes sense but I hope not to need that🤗

Good reply and reason, thanks again.
