- My model of MX-5 is: NC
- I’m based near: East Midlands
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on:
Just bought a True Red NC PRHT that unfortunately has a couple of spots on the paint (bonnet and bootlid) that are starting to fade to pink.
Does anyone know if the True Red NC has a clear coat or not? Also, anyone have any good advice on trying to restore this to red?
I owned a true red NC, it certainly had a lacquer finish as in some parts, particularly the bonnet leading edge had lacquer peel. They can go like that on the NC. The kit you get from mx5parts (small touch in) contains a lacquer too.
Basically if you can polish the red and the paint colour comes off on the cloth it probably hasn’t got a lacquer applied, maybe it’s had a repaint as some time??

I’ve bought a few cans of a4a True Red before and the seller I usually buy from on eBay does a kit with the lacquer in it.

Same problem with my 2011 NC roadster. Mine seems to be from water droplets sitting on the car that have magnified the sunlight. Heard that it was an issue with Mazda’s first water based paints. Looking at re spaying boot and maybe bonnet! Seems to be an issue that is under the lacquer with the base coat!
