ND How-To - DRL harness & Bose Sub removal (combined)

I did not know until a couple of weeks ago that the DRLs go completely off when the headlights come on. i often see other modern cars with a dimmed DRL at night, making them standout/better visible/ also shows the car marque. (thinking of DS3s and many Kias).

as with Fog lights, they arnt supposed to be ‘on on’. so might be an MOT item. however… until then, i thought it worth a punt.
there is a Brightness control (full, and dimmed). in my pics its currently Full. im going to see how i get on. they do look bright to the eye when i walked away from my car to simulate being an approaching vehicle.

these are the DRL harness:

Theres some good how-tos out there for US (LHD) cars. i like DriveMX5 for his vids.

this gives you everything you need… except the middle. this is where i’ll fill the gaps:

  • For RHD DRL light harness install, there are no pedals to remove. so once you have popped the 2x screw for the carpet, quarter plastic, and door sill its a simple carpet pull back.

  • carpet is glued. if this is the first time its been moved it will need 2 hands and tugging.

  • you will then see a black ‘foot rest’, and foam below

  • 1 screw holding the foam, so unlike the US video… do NOT just pull it. do the screw then wiggle it out.

  • you will then see that the black ‘foot rest’ is the Bose sub unit! :hushed: (i did not know that was its home!)
  • 3x 10mm bolts to remove. (3rd just off the bottom of this pic)
  • unplug the power plug and clip bottom left.
  • rotate slightly anti-clockwise to find the space to wiggle it out (carpet will likely need a hand on it too to generate more space)
  • you can then (finally) reach these two 10mm bolts and continue the install as per the LHD video

After Pics
although its really hard to remove the glare on the phone, i hope this gives an idea on the look post install.

other important info…
Bose Sub weight (entire unit = sub + enclosure) 2.91kg
in case you wanted to shave some pounds
