- My model of MX-5 is: ND RF
- I’m based near: Ascot_
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: MX5 Things Smart Roof Controller_
Hi All,
Does anyone have any experience of installing the the MX 5 Things - Smart roof controller, in particular the RFC-3 version. I am looking for any hints on how to update the firmware.
Thanks,
Simon
I have one but no idea what version it is
Have you had it plugged into a computer yet and what came up?
By plugging it in you can find the firm wear then you can update it this should also tell you what settings and control you have l did mine last year mine is on iOS you can only get the full application if you have fitted all three parts of the controller……
I would email Sergey at MX5 things, as I found him very helpful when setting up my PRHT roof controller

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback to date.
The issue is that the latest version (RLC-3) software does not allow you to change the firmware. Where as the RLC-2 software did.
With the RLC-3 software, I can go in and set the speed, button orientation and key fob. I just do not know what differences there are between the US firmware and UK/EU.
Flyin Miatta, are following up on this and I guess it will end up with a updated software release that re-introduces the firmware piece.
I will fit the module this weekend and let you know if it works,

Update - Flyin Miatta advised that the firmware can be updated on the RFC 3 by using the Micro soft PUTTY app. Downloaded the app and updated the firmware - easy once you know how.
Installed both the ACC/IG power controller and the roof controller last night and it is absolutely fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this upgrade,
Adds a whole new perspective to the car being able open and close the roof remotely. Plus the addition of single push operation of the roof, rather than having to hold the button while the roof goes through its cycle.
A fantastic car just got even better.

Yes it’s good also like the remote window application & roof open/close features when on the move……
